History of Saurashtra:
After India’s independence in 1947, 217 princely states of Kathiawar, including the former Junagadh State, were merged to form the state of Saurashtra on 15 February 1948. The exercise took up a lot of Shri Vallabh bhai Patel’s time to convince the local princes and petty subas (totalling 222 in Saurashtra alone). However, Maharaja Krishnakumar Sinhji of Bhavnagar State readily extended to offer his large and royal empire of Bhavnagar / Gohilwar to Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel, and Bhavnagar became the first in the country to be merged into the union of India. On 1st November 1956, Saurashtra was merged into Bombay state. In 1960, Bombay state was divided along linguistic lines into the new states of Gujarat and Maharashtra. The territory of Saurashtra, including Junagadh and all of Sorath, became part of the state of Gujarat.

We saw the ancestral house of Gandhi family, where Mahatma Gandhi was born on 2nd szzdfsÎOctober 1869 , which is just adjacent to the Kirti Mandir.
In the House there was even a mark indicating the room where Gandhi was born.
After Spending some time there and seeing the old photograph’s and the heritage home we returned back to the room. After breakfast we checked out the room and went to see Sri Hari Mandir of Porbandar . Its very peaceful and spacious temple.
After darshan of Sri Hari there, we started our journey to see Sri Krishna in Dwarka.
On the way to Dwarka , we were greeted by a lovely flock of Cranes.
After 2 hours of drive we reached the hotel we booked for the day in Dwarka. We had lunch and came to know that the Dwarkadhish will be opened at 5:30 PM .
